EXULTANT PRESENTATION OF GRECIAN ROCK OPERA “PORPHYRA”

WHICH WAS DEDICATED TO THE RETURN OF THE PARTHENON SCULPTURES
The Grecian rock Opera “Porphyra” written by the composer Billy Chrissochos was presented for the first time with great success under the auspices of the Club for UNESCO Piraeus and Islands for 3 shows at the Players Theater on Broadway in New York. The show was dedicated to the Club for UNESCO of Piraeus and Islands campaign for the return of the Parthenon Marbles.
Dancers, singers, musicians and actors gave their best presenting an exciting show that left the audience stunned.
In the premiere Mr. Ioannis Maronitis, President of the Club for UNESCO of Piraeus and Islands and Member of the Executive Board of the World Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centers and Associations (WFUCA) for Europe and North America, awarded Mr. Billy Chrissochos and also all the Opera actors, singers, dancers and musicians with the Club’s special honorary award, declaring Mr. Chrissochos as the Director of the Contemporary music section and Representative of the Club for UNESCO of Piraeus and Islands in America following the suggestion of the Greek-Canadian composer and Director of the Club’s Opera and Classical music section Mr. Panayotis Karousos.

The Porphyra, a Greek rock opera debuted 13 to 15 May 2016 at the Theatre Players after the successful debut last May at Carnegie Hall, “Porphyra, a Grecian Rock Opera. Anna and Vladimir: the love that ROCKED the world”, and is now officially on at Off Broadway street.
The music speaks of dreams and ambitions couple one that their own fate changed the course of history. This is the story of the Grand Prince Vladimir of Kievan Rus, the first Russian Empire, and Princess Anna Porphyrogenita of Constantinople, the Byzantine princess, a cultural beacon in the Mediterranean during the Middle Ages in Western Europe.
The electric guitar in joyful harmony with the bouzouki and violin, sings the life of dreams and ambitions of two lovers who have their own destiny and change the course of history.
The year is 988 AD Basil II ruled Byzantium. His reign will usher in a second golden age of Greece. But the civil war threatens to destroy Constantinople from within. On the northern front, the Russian Grand Prince Vladimir, begins the unification of Kievan Rus. Aims to achieve greater glory, and walks towards the Byzantine capital of Constantinople. At war with the Bulgarians, with civil and other enemies, Basil sends his sister Anna to negotiate a treaty with Vladimir. Vladimir seeks truce only if married Porphyrogenitus, but the princess is born with royal purple .. Anna refuses to marry a pagan barbarian. Vladimir live the Princess Anne and the city of gold. Sends the mythical strong garrison of six thousand Varangians, to help the Kingdom to civil wars. More importantly, Vladimir transforms the nation of the Greek Orthodox Christianity, in order to marry Anne.
But can the love be strong enough to overcome what sword shield can not? Greece will survive in these unprecedented obstacles? This is the story of Anna and Vladimir. The love that shocked the world!
